Position :

The Director of Operations will work closely with the organisation's leadership and teams to ensure that Global Left has the systems, structures, processes, and coordination mechanisms required to operate effectively as an international organisation.

About the Job

Global Left is an international organisation connecting left and centre-left political actors committed to democracy, equality, human rights, and social justice.


The organisation builds a global platform for cooperation between parliamentarians, political parties, progressive organisations, policy experts, and civic actors, supporting political dialogue, policy coordination, and international cooperation.


We are currently seeking a Director of Operations to help build and coordinate the organisation's operational infrastructure during its establishment and growth phase.

Responsibilities

The Director of Operations will:

  • Lead the development and coordination of Global Left's organisational operations and internal processes

  • Establish clear systems for internal coordination, task management, documentation, and organisational workflows

  • Support the development of the organisation's institutional structure, policies, and operating procedures

  • Coordinate across Global Left's teams and ensure effective collaboration between operations, membership, communications, policy, and other functions

  • Support recruitment, onboarding, coordination, and development of staff and volunteers

  • Develop and maintain administrative systems, organisational records, and internal documentation

  • Support financial administration, budgeting, expense tracking, and operational planning

  • Coordinate organisational meetings, internal planning processes, and key institutional activities

  • Support the planning and delivery of international meetings, events, conferences, and political activities

  • Develop systems for monitoring organisational priorities, deadlines, and deliverables

  • Identify operational challenges and develop practical solutions to improve organisational effectiveness

  • Support the development of partnerships, institutional relationships, and organisational infrastructure

  • Contribute to long-term institutional development and the scaling of Global Left's operations

  • Provide regular operational updates and recommendations to the organisation's leadership

Requirements

Candidates demonstrate:

  • Academic background in management, public administration, political science, international relations, economics, organisational development, or a related field or

  • Professional or volunteer experience in operations, management, NGOs, political organisations, civic initiatives, international organisations, or social movements

  • Experience coordinating projects, teams, programmes, or organisational processes

  • Strong organisational and project-management skills

  • Ability to develop practical systems and processes in a growing organisation

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote environment

Additional qualities

  • Strong interest in international progressive political cooperation

  • Strategic and solution-oriented approach to organisational challenges

  • Ability to work effectively across cultures, time zones, and different organisational contexts

  • Strong attention to detail combined with an ability to see the wider organisational picture

  • Collaborative leadership style and ability to coordinate people without unnecessary bureaucracy

  • Initiative, reliability, and ability to take ownership of projects

  • Experience working in an international, political, nonprofit, or movement-based environment is an advantage

  • Commitment to democratic values, equality, human rights, and social justice
